What Adventure Riders Actually Need from a Jacket

  • Ventilation AND waterproofing — A rider doing a day in the mountains starts at sea level on a hot morning and crosses a 2,500-metre pass in rain. The jacket needs to open up significantly for the climb and seal fully for the descent.
  • Protection AND freedom of movement — Off-road sections require the rider to stand on the pegs, shift weight aggressively, and sometimes pick the bike up after a drop. A jacket tight across the shoulders or restrictive in the arms is a safety problem on trail sections.
  • Durability — Drop tests on gravel roads are a real use case, not a hypothetical. Cordura 600D at minimum is appropriate; 900D for the rider who frequently operates on technical terrain.
  • Storage — Adventure riders carry more gear than road riders. Map pockets, GPS phone mount pockets on the arm, internal document pouches, and external attachment points for hydration packs are expected features in this segment.

CE Certification for Adventure Jackets

Adventure jackets are certified under EN 17092 at Level A or Level AA. Level AA is the appropriate choice for brands targeting riders who use their jackets at road speeds as well as off-road. The CE mark is applied under your brand name, with AJSAMCO as the manufacturer of record on the technical construction file.

Adventure brands typically have a strong opinion on fit — the jacket must accommodate a hydration pack without riding up, must allow the rider to raise both arms above their head without the hem pulling, and must sit correctly when standing on the pegs rather than seated. We build a standing-position test into our sample review process for all adventure jacket developments: the sample is reviewed both seated and standing before we sign it off for production.
